REVIEW Infinix Hot 12, Affordable Gaming Mobile with Great Screen

Widely known in the affordable entry-level (beginners) class, Infinix is ​​fairly diligent in releasing new series.

For the Hot 12 Series, Infinix has Infinix Hot 12, in addition to the Infinix Hot 12i and Hot 12 Play.

This time Nextren tested the Infinix Hot 12 directly at an official price of IDR 2,099,000, as an entry-level gaming cellphone at an affordable price.

The main spec of the Infinix Hot 12 is the Helio G85 gaming chipset, which is widely used in affordable gaming cellphones and is equipped with features to maximize gaming performance on cellphones.

The Helio G85 is combined with 6GB of RAM memory which can be expanded by 5GB through the Extended RAM feature.  While the internal memory is 128GB which can be expanded with a microSD.

Then what is in the sales package?

Design and Screen

The Infinix Hot 12 looks more masculine with a square shape and flat surface, with a fairly large size.

The back side is made of shiny material that looks luxurious and doesn't easily leave fingerprints when gripped.

Although the rear body is shiny like glass, but when held it is not slippery and remains comfortable to hold for a long time.

The placement of the volume button is on the right side, then at the bottom there is the power / lock screen button as well as the fingerprint sensor (fingerprint).

On the left there is a slot, for 2 operator SIM cards and a microSD slot.

Below there is a 3.5mm audio jack port, microphone, USB-C and one of the speakers because it is stereo.

The Infinix Hot 12 screen looks comfortable to watch movies and play games for a long time, with reliable brightness and sharpness.

The screen is 6.82 inches with HD + (1640×720) resolution and IPS LCD, with a high refresh rate of 90Hz.

So browsing the menus and features on the screen feels smooth and lag-free.

The 90Hz screen refresh rate plus 180Hz touch sampling rate will surely spoil mobile gaming players.

Refresh rate can also be set manually, there is an Ultra Touch option to improve screen scrolling capabilities.

There is also a feature to reduce touch errors when the cellphone is pocketed.

The screen also has a Dark Mode feature, making it more comfortable on the eyes while saving battery life, especially with the eye comfort feature, namely Eye Care.

Performance

Even though the price is affordable, the performance of the Infinix Hot 12 can represent a reliable gaming smartphone.

The performance of the Infinix Hot 12 is powered by MediaTek's special gaming chipset, the Helio G85, a flagship chipset for entry-level gaming.

Combined with 6 GB of RAM memory, the performance becomes lighter.  Moreover, there is an Extended RAM feature which adds a virtual RAM capacity of 5 GB.

So this Hot 12 can use 11 GB of RAM RAM memory which of course makes multitasking and gaming activities smoother.

For data and application storage, the internal memory is quite large, which is 128 GB and you can still add a microSD card up to 512 GB.

Overall performance for gaming is pretty good.

Nextren tried to directly play the Genshin Impact game with medium graphics settings and 60 FPS and it ran quite smoothly.

When using graphics settings lower than 60 fps, the game runs more smoothly.

The 180Hz touch sampling rate and 90Hz refresh rate make game play more optimal, for example when dodging or running after enemies, including when aiming at targets.

However, there is a little note that the longer you play the game, the body temperature will also increase, which is fairly warm.

Now when the temperature of the phone is warm, the game performance begins to decline.

Likewise, when playing the game Arena of Valor (AOV), which is the official partner of Hot 12, it also runs smoothly.

AOV game settings can be enjoyed to the maximum level, with a very detailed graphic display.

The existence of the XArena feature on the Hot 12 also supports its gaming performance, namely the special Dar-Link Engine technology to optimize resources when used to play games.

Through the XArena feature, there can be additional settings to improve the gaming experience, such as incoming notifications, floating windows, or optimizing game graphics.

The performance score of Infinix Hot 12 through the benchmark application is also good, with AnTuTu 201226 scores and GeekBencdh 5 scores being 338 (single core) and 1123 (Multicore).

Camera

Championed as a gaming cellphone, the Infinix Hot 12 is also equipped with a good camera in its class.

The main camera on the back consists of a 13 MP f/1.8, plus a 2 MP camera and AI Lens QVGA.

While the selfie camera has an 8 MP resolution plus artificial intelligence (AI).

Uniquely, the flash (flash) is available in abundance on this cellphone, namely 4 flash for the rear camera and 2 flash for the front camera.

The camera is accompanied by many features such as Super Night Mode, 240fps Super Slow Motion, Eye-tracking Auto Focus, 1080p High-Resolution Video and attractive filters for beauty and portrait effects.

The photos are fairly good, for daytime conditions and in low light.  For low-light photos, the Super Night Mode feature is very helpful in getting photos that are still bright and sharp enough.

Battery

The Infinix Hot 12 battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh is fairly large, but it doesn't make the design thick and heavy.

There is a Power Marathon feature, which is said to increase battery life by up to 25%.

To save even more, there are many other settings for old batteries such as Power Boost and Ultra power saving.

When we tried it with a fairly intensive activity, the battery could last all day and there was still enough left.

The activities tested were quite intensive, such as playing games, social media, and watching Youtube.

But unfortunately, the large battery is only supported by an 18 Watt charger so it takes a long time to fully charge.

Our opinion

With a price range of 2.1 million in the entry-level class, the Infinix Hot 12 is attractive as one of the choices for gaming cellphones.

In addition, the spacious and clear screen is also convenient for other needs such as watching movies or Youtube, social media, and online learning.

The battery has a large capacity of 5000mAh and is fairly durable to use all day, although unfortunately it is not equipped with a high-power fast charger.
